WHAT IS A CHEESEMONGER?

In simple terms, someone who sells cheese.  But it is far more complex than this.  A Cheesemonger is someone who acts as a liason between the producer and the consumer.  Who tends to cheeses until they are sold.  They advise and educate the customer.

A Cheesemonger is the "sommelier of cheese".

They are expertly versed in cheese groups and characteristics.

They will help you select cheese based on flavor preference, party plans or seasonality.

Cheesemonger Kurt understand the importance of your experience with cheese.  This is why visiting creameries is a priority.  Understanding the process from start to finish will allow him to further understand the complexity of cheese and provide a better experience for our customers.

A true cheesemonger is passionate about cheese and should be able to recommend which cheeses pair well with which foods and wines. They know which cheese is at its peak and in season and the story behind the cheese they carry in their store.  "The cheesemonger's job is like a food therapist but there is also a lot of science behind it.  Cheeses need to be stored at controlled temperatures and properly wrapped so they can mature and be enjoyed at the peak condition without over ripening or drying out", Yarborough, Style Blueprint

A good cheesemonger is knowledgeable and approachable. They will forge a relationship with you, will learn your preferences and will happily share their passion. It is essentially an old fashioned way of shopping for food.
